What will students study this term?

In Drama, students will be exploring how to use body language, facial expressions and scripted speech to explore the themes of conflict and power in the novel Lord of the Flies.

What assessment will students do this term?

Students will be assessed on their acting performance skills, group work and discussion skills through peer and self-assessment as well as teacher assessment. Students will have an end of term acting project to show case all of the skills that they have learned so far this term and will be assessed accordingly against the success criteria.

What homelearning will be set this term?

Homelearning will be set once over a two week cycle and will involve monologue writing, designing an advertisement, action planning and thought tracking. This will further extend their learning and heighten their understanding of the topic and the skills needed to progress.

What can we do at home to help with this term’s learning?

Useful conversations would be about the themes and ideas discussed in class but also what they think and what their thoughts and opinions are. Encourage students to finish reading the novel Lord of the Flies in their own time at home. This would be hugely helpful.

What extension project can students complete at home on this topic?

Students could watch live theatre productions on Youtube or could visit National Theatre Live productions at local cinemas. Current BBC dramas showcase drama skills and topical issues really well also.
