What will students study this term?

Yr 7 students will be learning key vocabulary and phrases to talk about their likes and dislikes and to talk about other people. They will also learn how to describe their family and pets.

The grammar they will cover includes present tense of the verb ‘avoir’ and the –er verbs. They will also learn how to use the adjective agreement.

Yr 8 students will be learning key vocabulary and phrases to describe people and talk about activities in the past.

The grammar they will cover includes past tense of key verbs. They will also use the adjective agreement and the negative form.

Yr 9 Students will be learning how to talk about their education and how to discuss what school/college is like, plans for future eg jobs, likes/dislikes and opinions on the topic.

The grammar they will cover includes the conjugation of the present and near future tenses. They will also enrich their vocabulary and develop their listening and speaking skills.

What homelearning will be set this term?

Students will receive homelearning tasks to complete twice per fortnight.

What can we do at home to help with this term’s learning?

Please check that your child is completing the set homelearning given.

Help them to complete the vocabulary and spelling learning that is essential to the course.

Encourage them to learn the grammar rules.

Ensure that your child brings in all necessary equipment.

Support your child in using the bi-lingual dictionary for checking spellings and looking up new words at home. Look at written work to check on the length of sentences and help students join shorter phrases together with conjunctions from the vocabulary list or dictionary.

What extension project can students complete at home on this topic?

Yr 7 students could create a presentation in French about themselves (including family, friends, pets, etc) in French and send it to their teacher.

Yr 8 students could create a presentation in French about a famous person in French and send it to their teacher.

All students also do a research on a French culture event (music, cinema, art, …) and create an A4 presentation.

Yr 9 students could create a project on education in France and hand it in to their teacher. They could look at the difference between the French and English system.
