What will students study this term?

Year 7

Students will be learning key vocabulary and phrases to talk about their family and about where they live. They will also learn how to describe their family and pets.

The grammar they will cover includes present tense of the –er verbs. They will also practice the possessive adjective and develop listening and speaking skills.

Year 8

Students will be learning how to describe their past holidays using the passé compose tense.

The grammar they will cover includes past tense of key verbs. They will also use the possessive adjective and develop their listening and speaking skills.

Year 9

Students will be learning how to talk about Holidays and Travel. They will be taught about holiday destinations and activities, getting around, preferences and opinions. In the second part of the term, they will work on leisure activities, media, likes/dislikes and opinions.

The grammar they will cover includes the conjugation of all the tenses and reflexive verbs. They will also enrich their vocabulary and develop their listening and speaking skills.

What homelearning will be set this term?

Students will receive homelearning tasks to complete twice per fortnight.

What can we do at home to help with this term’s learning?

Please check that your child is completing the set homelearning given.

Help them to complete the vocabulary and spelling learning that is essential to the course.

Encourage them to learn the grammar rules.

Ensure that your child brings in all necessary equipment.

Support your child in using the bi-lingual dictionary for checking spellings and looking up new words at home. Look at written work to check on the length of sentences and help students join shorter phrases together with conjunctions from the vocabulary list or dictionary.

What extension project can students complete at home on this topic?

Year 7

Students can write a letter in French to an imaginary French student and present their family and their town.
Students can also do a research on a French city and create an A4 presentation about its location, main landmarks, population etc.

Year 8

Students can watch the movie “les vacances du petit Nicolas” available on youtube and write a summary of it.
Students can also do a research on a French city where they went or would like to go on holidays and create an A4 presentation.

Year 9

Students could create a tourism leaflet on any foreign country and hand it in to their teacher. They could do some research on the places to visit, the important facts, etc.
