At The Ongar Academy, we aim to ensure students are given the quality of teaching and learning required to make an informed choice about the career and direction in which they are heading in KS4 and so concentrate upon a broad and balanced approach to all subjects.

Key Stage 4: Years 10 and 11

The students will be encouraged to pursue the English Baccalaureate if that is the appropriate direction for them but our focus will be in ensuring the best possible Attainment 8 outcomes for all students.

At KS4, the subject choice will widen to include new subjects such as Ancient History, and other qualifications that will help build a portfolio of skills and knowledge that would grace any university entrant. A range of courses will be on offer so that every student is able to tailor their own curriculum to suit their needs and interests.

We strongly believe that students should study courses that are suitable for their particular age range and ability. In Mathematics, for example, students will be able to study GCSE and Additional Mathematics examinations depending on their interests and ability.

As a STEM school, we will place a great emphasis on building the skills to attain a scientifically enquiring mind. At GCSE, the vast majority of students will study triple Science as a stepping stone to Science or Mathematical study later at A-level and beyond.

Subjects available at KS4 will include:

Ancient History Art Biology Chemistry
Computing Drama English Language English Literature
French Geography History Latin
Mathematics Music Physical Education Physics
Product Design PSHEE Religious Studies : Philosophy & Ethics Science
Spanish Textiles

 Key Stage 5: Years 12 and 13

Our Sixth Form plans are in the early planning stages at present but we initially intend to deliver a curriculum fit for the 21st century and in-keeping with our STEM focus. Please check this page in the future as details become known to keep informed.
