What assessment will students do this year?

All students will be assessed in their practical performances, knowledge and understanding, skills, techniques and rules of each sports/ activity covered. 

The assessment process focuses on the following points.  1. Techniques in practise 2. Performance in competition 3. Developing tactics and strategies, problem solving 4. Evaluating and improving 5. Physical competence 6. Knowledge and understanding of health and fitness 7. Participating in physical activity and sport.

What can we do at home to help with this year’s learning?

Students need to develop their fitness levels. Running three times a week for a minimum of 20 minutes will improve overall fitness levels. Students should adopt a healthy active lifestyle. A balanced diet should be encouraged at home.  Please ensure your child is organised with a full PE kit.

What extension project can students complete at home on this topic?

Students will study some theory within the year 9 PE curriculum.  It will be beneficial for the students to learn the components of fitness, the muscles and bones in the body, the different methods of training and what a balanced diet consists of.   Students should try to join at least one enrichment club to develop their physical, social and mental well being.

PE Enrichment happens Mondays – Thursdays and is available to all. Please encourage your son/daughter to attend at least one enrichment programme to help them improve their fitness, learn new skills and gain confidence in their ability.
