What will students study this term?
Students will be focussing on activities that they like or dislike doing. They will learn how to grade their opinions and explain their reasons. They will continue to use varied connectives and intensifiers to make their work more interesting and begin to conjugate regular -AR verbs in the present tense. They will review days, months and seasons and link their activities to the weather, using adverbs of frequency to improve their work.
Students will focus on the past (preterite) tense in the context of holidays and parties. They will learn about activities done on summer holidays and how they travelled, to where, and with whom. They will add sequencers to improve the fluency of their work, always including opinions and reasons which were taught last year. They will learn how to order food in a Spanish restaurant and how to report what they have eaten and drunk. They will add daily routine and items of clothing to their vocabulary. They will be challenged to include information across the three key tenses of past, present and immediate future. Finally, students will start to tackle present tense modal verbs.
Students will be learning about healthy lifestyle They will be taught about healthy and unhealthy lifestyle, choices and consequences. They will learn how to debate and give argument in the target language.
The grammar they will cover includes the conjugation of all tenses. They will also use frequency words, comparative and opinion phrases and develop their listening and speaking skills.
What assessment will students do this term?
Students’ reading comprehension, writing, translation and listening skills will be tested on the topics detailed above.
The first assessment will focus on reading and writing skills and the second on listening and speaking.
Assessments will focus on the key skills taught during the first few weeks of the spring term.
What homelearning will be set this half-term?
Students will use the VIVA 1 online textbook to produce and revise their own opinions and reasons on key activities including sports. They will also be learning vocabulary. There will be choices including wordsearches, creating a weather forecast, writing and performing a rap or song, producing an acrostic and a diary page of extracurricular activities.
Students will have a choice, to include creating a restaurant menu, a party plan, holiday brochure, fashion spread, holiday diary, clothes poster or wordsearch and postcard sent ‘from on holiday’.
Students will be using the Viva 2 online textbooks.
What extension project can students complete at home on this topic?
Researching the activities liked/disliked by a key celebrity of interest to the student would be a good extension idea. They could produce a multi-media weather forecast. Students also have their ongoing Menu on Google Classroom which gives lots of ideas for extra work, to be rewarded in various ways.
Students can research holidays from the perspective of their favourite celebrity. They can also find out about Easter in Spain, focussing on foods and traditions. In addition, they have their ongoing Menu on Google Classroom which gives lots of ideas for extra work, to be rewarded in various ways.
Students can create a leaflet in the target language to warn about health and promote healthy lifestyle. They can then deliver a presentation in class or send to the teacher.
