What will students study this term?

Year 7

Students will be learning key vocabulary and phrases to talk about their studies and school. They will give their opinion about their school subjects and say what they do at break time.

The grammar they will cover includes present tense of the –ar / -ir and –er verbs. They will also practise the adjective agreement and develop listening and speaking skills.

Year 8

Students will be learning how to talk about their tv programmes and music preferences. They will also learn how to discuss what they have done the day before and talk about what they use their phones for.
The grammar they will cover includes the conjugation of –ar /–er / -ir / -re verbs at the present tense. They will also use frequency words, comparative and opinion phrases and develop their listening and speaking skills.

Year 9

Students will be learning about Local Area and Environment. They will work on the following topics:  home town/region, what it is like, environmental problems in your area.

The grammar they will cover includes the comparative, conditional tense and develop their knowledge of 3 tenses. They will also use frequency words, comparative and opinion phrases and develop their listening and speaking skills.

What homelearning will be set this term?

Students will receive homelearning tasks to complete twice per fortnight.

What can we do at home to help with this term’s work?

Please check that your child is completing the set homelearning given.

Help them to complete the vocabulary and spelling learning that is essential to the course.

Encourage them to learn the grammar rules.

Ensure that your child brings in all necessary equipment.

Support your child in using the bi-lingual dictionary for checking spellings and looking up new words at home. Look at written work to check on the length of sentences and help students join shorter phrases together with conjunctions from the vocabulary list or dictionary.

What extension project can students complete at home on this topic?

Year 7 students design a new timetable in Spanish.

Year 8 students can also do a research on school in Spain (how it works, what Spanish pupils study, school hours, …)

Year 9 students can interview friends and family members about one of the topic studied and translate the conversation on Spanish to then deliver a presentation in class or send to the teacher.
