History
The first Ongar Academy was opened in 1811 by William Stokes M.A. as a private grammar school for boys. By 1936, Essex County Council had established the Ongar County Secondary School on Fyfield Road, which later became the widely regarded Ongar Comprehensive School.
In 2015, The Ongar Academy opened into modern purpose built accommodation and in September 2017, we moved into our new buildings.
The Ongar Academy builds upon the strong tradition of secondary education in Ongar, and the work of our local primaries, to reinstate Ongar’s natural position as a local hub for secondary learning.
If you are an alumnus from the Ongar Comprehensive School, The Ongar Academy is keen to hear from you. Please email us to get in touch.
