Monday 16 October 2023

5% of our Year 7 intake is now selected by music aptitude and selection takes place through our Musical Aptitude Test.

Our Music Aptitude Test takes place after our September Open Evening, and results are emailed before the deadline day for handing in forms to Essex County Council Admissions at the end of October.

The date of the test is Monday 16 October 2023, and students should be on site at The Ongar Academy by 3:30pm.

Parents/carers can request that their child take part in this test by emailing to enrol at

In reply, you will receive the Supplementary Information Form to complete.

Deadline for requests is 4pm Monday 9 October 2023.

The test is based purely on aptitude and not musical ability, with 60 multiple choice questions. For example, on rhythm recognition and pitch recognition.  Students will not be disadvantaged for not currently being able to play a musical instrument.

We will accept 6 students based on the Music Aptitude Test and students will be ranked according to their result, with the top 6 highest scoring students being offered a place.

The Musical Aptitude candidates are held on a separate waiting list.

If your child is a twin, the allocation of a place to your son/daughter as a result of the Musical Aptitude Test does not mean their sibling is automatically allocated a place

Open Evening - Thursday 28 September 2023, 6-8pm.

All current Year 5 and 6 students welcome along with their parents / carers.
Mr Wakefield, our new Headteacher, will be conducting two presentations in the main hall at 6:10pm and 7:10pm.
We look forward to welcoming our prospective students and their families into our academy.
